Evolution of Science—Changes at a rapid pace

However the scientific evolution is described as the great outburst in the search of physical nature that took place in the sixteenth century. The result of modern science is applied in the form of technology and is evident everywhere today. Over the years science has revolutionized transportation and communication and increased the power and wealth available to society.

Discovery of fossil

For over a century and a half scientists are investigating how evolution has occurred. In the year two thousand and four researchers made a remarkable discovery on an island in North Canada where they found a fossil four foot long with had the features of both a fish and a four legged animal. It had all the characteristics of a fish, like scales, gills, fins and that it remained in water. However the surprising part was that it had a neck, lungs and a firm skeleton that could hold its body even in shallow water.

The team that discovered this fossil decided to focus on an area further up North in Canada where they found sedimentary rock deposited over three hundred and seventy five million years ago. It took the scientists to use many modes of transport to get to the area and they could work for only a few months in summer as after that snow would fall in winter. After four years of back breaking work they found a fossil named Tiktaalik which means big freshwater fish. The fins had bones that formed like a limb which meant that it could prop itself up. Thus the prediction proved correct that early species emerged from the earth’s oceans three hundred and seventy five million years ago.

Study of Evolution

The study of biological evolution has changed our understanding of life on this planet. Evolution thus provides a comprehensive explanation as to why there are so many organisms on the earth and how all of them played a part in the evolution lineage. It accounts for the appearance of humans on earth and shows our connections with other living things.


 It also showed how different groups of humans are related to each other and developed many of our traits. Under the development of science of genetics in the beginning of the twentieth century, what could not be understood was the inheritance of traits from parents to offspring’s. However it was found that off springs are not always like their parents. It has been seen that in sexually reproducing species where each parent contributes only one half of the genetic information, the DNA of the two parents is joined in new ways in the offspring. DNA also undergoes changes known as mutation and when this happens there are many changes.. One could be that the new mutation may result in a trait that allows an organism to take better advantages of the environment thus increasing its ability to live and produce offspring. In this way the organism is likely to have more offspring than other members of the population.
